Extra Thanks 11/23/2012With Thanksgiving this week I spent some time reflecting on those things in my life that I am thankful for. Being a mother of two happy, healthy little boys is of course top of my list. However, I recognize there is so much more that should be acknowledge. These unsung heroes, let’s call them that impact so many of my days (and nights). |

I am thankful....
~That despite my all too often reaching into the back seat to fish around for a missing binky or dropped toy I have not been pulled over for distracted driving or worse had an accident. ~That disposable diapers are available everywhere and Costco sells them in bulk. I tried cloth, I really did, but the fit was terrible and they leaked. ~That vaccinations are available to my kids. Although I cannot shield them from all of the world’s ailments, I am thankful I can at least prevent a few. ~That I have a great family and friend support system and that there are so many folks who love my kids. ~That my Aunt Dorothy is kicking the big C in the butt and showing it who is the boss of her! ~Corny as it sounds, that Facebook keeps me in contact with friends from many points in my life (love all your photos) and has brought contact with extended family from across the country. ~For my sister in law for recently showing me a much easier way to get to work. ~That "50 Shades of Grey" was published and "Revenge" is on TV because sometimes we only have time for a mental vacation. ~For smart phones & tablets that help me keep track of everybody's to do's. ~That we live in such a great place and so close to the amazing medical support we needed this year. I will forever be thankful for the team at Children's Hospital for the gift of our son and their work to make sure he has a life to live. ~For my husband giving in this fall and accepting a hot tub in the back yard, it’s the best mommy take a quiet moment ever. ~That you all indulge me in reading my offerings and not mock me openly despite my tendency for typos. ~For parks, playgrounds, the backyard and our mini trampoline for tiring my big guy out in time for his nap. ~For red wine, whoopee pies, sangria, pizza, circus peanuts, and candy corn and that I don't have a major medical issue based on my favorite food items. ~That my work keeps me employed and my husband and children still seem to like me despite my daily feeling of being unable to give anybody enough of what they need. ~And lastly, that I have met other mama's who share their frustrations with me which helps keep me sane and in check, as well as providing me with great advice and support. |
I know this list is far from complete. In the daily grind its hard to remember, let alone recognize all the good things we have going for us. I hope to build on the reflection here and find more of those positive influences in my life and honor them.
To all of you mama's out there (and nanas, aunties, uncles, and daddies) remember to give thanks every day,
because there really is so much we all have to be thankful for.
